Breath test

SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) breath test
This test measures the content of hydrogen and methane gases in the air exhaled after ingestion of a sugar solution. High levels of these gases may indicate bacterial overgrowth of the small intestine.
Helicobacter pylori breath test
This test detects the presence of Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium that can cause gastric ulcers and other gastrointestinal problems. The patient drinks a solution containing a small quantity of radioactive carbon or a non-radioactive isotope, and breath samples are taken. The presence of certain compounds in the exhaled air indicates the presence of H. pylori.
Lactose/fructose intolerance breath test
This test is used to diagnose lactose/fructose intolerance. After fasting, the patient drinks a solution containing lactose/fructose and breath samples are taken at regular intervals. Elevated levels of hydrogen in breath may indicate lactose/fructose malabsorption.
